Position SummaryÂ
The firm seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to provide comprehensive administrative and paralegal support to attorneys in a legal defense practice. This position combines legal secretarial functions with substantive paralegal responsibilities and is essential to the efficient management of casework, court deadlines, and client communications.Â
The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a fast-paced legal environment.Â

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesÂ
Legal Secretarial and Administrative FunctionsÂ
Prepare, edit, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, correspondence, and filingsÂ
Manage attorney schedules, court appearances, deadlines, and internal calendarsÂ
Coordinate filing and service of documents with courts, opposing counsel, prosecutors, and relevant agenciesÂ
Maintain and organize physical and electronic case files in accordance with firm procedures and court requirementsÂ
Receive and route telephone calls, correspondence, and inquiries in a professional mannerÂ
Communicate with clients, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and witnesses as directedÂ
Monitor court dockets and notify attorneys of relevant developmentsÂ
Assist with time entry, billing support, expense tracking, and general office administrationÂ
Paralegal and Case Support FunctionsÂ
Assist attorneys with case preparation from intake through resolution or trialÂ
Draft discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and legal correspondenceÂ
Review and summarize discovery materials, including police reports, witness statements, recordings, and recordsÂ
Conduct legal and factual research and prepare written summaries for attorney reviewÂ
Organize exhibits and prepare trial notebooks, hearing materials, and sentencing or mitigation submissionsÂ
Coordinate with investigators, experts, and ancillary service providers as directedÂ
Prepare and submit filings in accordance with applicable state and federal court rulesÂ

QualificationsÂ
RequiredÂ
Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegalÂ
Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and filing requirementsÂ
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and legal document management systemsÂ
Excellent written and oral communication skillsÂ
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretionÂ
PreferredÂ
Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in legal studies or a related fieldÂ
Prior experience in civil defense litigation or appellate practiceÂ
Familiarity with electronic filing systems, including Mississippi Electronic Courts (MEC/MS e-Filing) and the Federal CM/ECF system for the United States District CourtsÂ
Experience managing a high-volume caseloadÂ

Born and raised in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Heather’s story is rooted in strong Southern values, a deep work ethic, and a passion for helping others succeed. In 1998, she moved to Brandon, Mississippi, where she graduated from Northwest Rankin High School before continuing her education at Hinds Community College. There, she earned a degree in Early Childhood Development, laying the groundwork for what would become a dynamic and multifaceted career path.
After completing her education, Heather embraced motherhood and took on the role of a stay-at-home mom. It was during this chapter of life that her entrepreneurial spirit truly came to life. She built a thriving online business from the ground up—one that not only allowed her to be present for her growing family but also gave her hands-on experience in online marketing, customer service, and small business development. These formative years sharpened her natural leadership skills and helped her develop a keen understanding of the digital business landscape.
Heather currently resides in Brandon, Mississippi, with her husband and their three children. A dedicated sports mom, she spends much of her free time on the sidelines of baseball and softball fields, cheering on her kids and embracing the strong sense of community that comes with it.
In January 2020, Heather joined PSG, bringing with her a lifetime of insight into the staffing industry. Having grown up in a family deeply immersed in staffing, she came to the role with an intuitive understanding of how to match people with opportunity—and businesses with talent. Her journey at PSG began as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, where she quickly proved herself to be a strong communicator, a natural connector, and a team player with a deep commitment to client success.
Her dedication and performance led to a well-earned promotion to Director of Business Development, a role in which she now thrives.
