Job Description

Summary: 
  • Safely operate industrial trucks or tractors
  • Load and unload cargo
  • Inspect trucks before and after use
  • Communicate need for maintenance or repair

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, truck driving, or other related fields

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform daily inspections on any and all equipment that is required to be used to complete all work assignments
  • Starts the engine and drives the material handler to the worksite, steering it by moving levers and pressing pedals that control the motion of crawler treads.
  • Safely operate the magnet and grapple.
  • Pushes and pulls levers and presses pedals in response to hand signals to rotate crane on chassis and raise and lower crane boom.
  • Inspects equipment for defective parts and notifies the supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Lubricates motor and moving parts of the material handler.  Check all fluids, catwalks and mirrors, check for leaks in hoses, steel lines or cylinders.
  • Inspects, sorts and moves materials around the yard into loading boxes and or designated areas.
  • Load trucks and rail cars as necessary.
  • Operates the material handler in a safe manner that expedites the loading and unloading of incoming and outgoing materials in accordance with the machine capacity and weather conditions. (e.g. high winds)
  • Be conscientious of others around the material handler when moving about the yard.
  • Keep roadways clean and clear, check the condition of the ground before setting up in the area to work. Making sure equipment is level before attempting to lift and place a load.
  • Make sure the truck or railcar is properly loaded, paying close attention to material hanging over or too high.
  • Perform maintenance on the material handler as needed, notify management as soon as a problem or potential problem or issue occurs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional duties:
  • Operate Forklift to transport scrap bins from Inside Stamping plant to scrap dumping area, use forklift with rotator to rotate bins over to dump scrap out, return scrap bin to the assigned location for scrap collection.
  • Operate Switch engine/railcar mover to move and weigh railcars as needed.
  • Operate Spot truck/trailer switcher to move aluminum trailers from inside building to transload area.
  • Do all necessary items to maintain a clean and safe working environment, such as sweeping and clean up any and all debris any and all work areas.
  • Operate hydraulic material handler to load and process scrap into baler, railcars and trailers.
  • Operate Front end loader to push up scrap piles and help assist team members in cleaning up debris.
  • Operate baler with remote from inside of material handler cab to process scrap metal.

Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Hazard Communication (preferred)
  • Lockout (preferred)

The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; risk of radiation and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.
 The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds long distances and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds short distances. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Bend or stop repeatedly, walk, lift arms above shoulder level; climb or balance; kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear or smell.

Pay is $15-$18
